Obituary for Richard D. Standrich

Richard D. Standrich, 80. “Rich” entered his eternal home Sun., Aug 9, surrounded by family while holding the hand of his beloved wife of nearly 63 years, Vanatta. Rich was born Dec. 21, 1934 in Anthony, KS. He and Vanatta moved to Derby in 1966 where he built a successful custom home-building business, Standrich Inc. A highly-respected business man, Rich was one of the original founders of First National Bank of Derby, now Verus Bank, where he served on the Board of Directors until December, 2014. A longtime member of the Wichita Area Builders Association, he served locally and nationally in many leadership positions. Committed to community service, he served on City Council and was elected Mayor of Derby 1999 - 2003. A member of the El Paso Cemetery Board of Directors, Derby Rotary and Holy Cross Lutheran Church. He was a witty, hard-working, and generous man who never wanted thanked or recognized. He simply quietly took care of the needs of others. Rich is proceeded in death by daughter Robin, parents Clarence and Myrtle Standrich, brothers Bill, Bob and Elvin Standrich, and sister Betty Gunkel. He is survived by wife, Vanatta, daughter Terry Burnett (Bruce), grandchildren Josh Burnett (Abrian) and Ashle Burnett, great-grandchildren Alexis, Trinity, Tripp, and Brennan. Brother Fred Standrich and sister Donna Clark (Larry). Service Aug. 14, 10am, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 600 N. Greenwich, Wichita. Visitation Aug. 13, 1-8pm with family present, 5-7pm Smith Family Mortuaries, Derby. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church Endowment Fund, 600 N. Greenwich Rd. Wichta, Ks 67206 or Richard Standrich Memorial, c/o Band of Parents P.O. Box 335 Dewittville, NY 14728, an organization funding new treatment for neuroblastoma a rare childhood cancer.
