Obituary for Mary Kathleen "Kathie" Winn

Mary Kathleen “Kathie” Winn, 90, entered into the very presence of her Savior and Lord, Wednesday, August 31, 2011, after a brief illness. Visitation 1-8 pm, Monday, September 5, 2011 with family receiving friends 6-8 pm, Culbertson–Smith Mortuary, 115 S. Seneca. Funeral service 10 am Tuesday, West Side Church of God, 1900 W. McCormick. Kathie was born June 28, 1921 in Greenwood, West Virginia to Loran Paul & Bricie (Elifritz) Britton. She was a 1941 graduate of Schulter High School, in Schulter, Oklahoma. She moved to Wichita in 1942 to work at Boeing Airplane Company so as to provide support for her mother and siblings. There she met and then married Franklin Ernest “Ernie” Winn, December 30, 1946 in Medicine Lodge, KS. Following WWII, she worked for Russell Stover Candies, then taking on the full time job of raising their three sons. Later she worked several years for Wheatheart Sales Tupperware as a successful unit manager. She always treasured the wonderful relationships established through the “parties” and the “Tupperware Family”. She was a member of the West Side Church of God since her arrival in Wichita, where she came to be known as “Miss Kathie” by those she taught in Sunday School classes, Week Day Release Church School (in partnership with McCormick Elementary) and later, as well, by the children of those she had previously taught. She served on many boards and committees, serving with others in training Christian Education workers in the Church of God in many places across the state of Kansas. Kathie started and led a prayer ministry that affected the lives of many people. She treasured her church family and was committed to her husband and children. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 64 years in October, 2010. Kathie is survived by sons, Stanley (Elizabeth) Winn, Clark (Dawn) Winn, all of Wichita, and David (Kimberly) Winn, La Mirada, CA; stepdaughters, Erna Joan Lopez and Judy (Ralph) Teague, all of Opelika, AL; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Loran (Norma) Britton, of Billings, MO. Kathie’s desire was to “go home to be with Ernie, and sit at the feet of Jesus with him.” Well done, good and faithful servant. You have entered your reward.
