MaryJane was an excellent example of everything I want to be - a devoted wife, a tireless mother, a generous grandmother, an unconditional friend, a caring & efficient secretary. At times she was the motherly guide I needed, other times she was the steady & loving counselor I needed, and other times she was the giggly girlfriend I needed to lift me up. She always knew what I needed. I am a better person for knowing you, MJ! You will never be forgotten. Your example of kindness and joy will echo on in all of us that were blessed to know and love you. I hope to make you proud, and I love you very much!

MaryJane was a great friend. She would always give me a hug and sometimes a kiss no matter where we were. I loved to share stories of our kids and grandkids. She always had a smile and was just a special person. I will miss her greatly! Tracey Snodgrass

How do you say goodbye to your best friend for over 30 years? We all need a friend who understands what we’re not saying. That’s what you always did for me. It was uncanny how we didn’t have to say anything and we knew what the other was thinking. Your wonderful laugh would brighten my day as it would everyone around you. It’s not often that you have a bond with someone where we know so much about each other. The advice we’ve given each other helped us raise our kids, have great marriages and lives. I couldn’t have been the principal that I was without all your support. I think of the Tv show, “cheers” where everyone knows your name, with you, as once you met someone you always remember their name. As Park Hill Elementary opened and we had so many new children and families, you helped me so much in remembering everyone’s names. You could just look at me and know I was struggling remembering a name and you would just say something to the parent and mention their name so I could remember it. I have loved watching your boys grow up into the great men that they have become and you did a fabulous job in that department. You helped me with my children and they love you so much. They both knew you were family and always came over for one of your great big kisses each time they saw you. You took my mom into your friendship when she moved here and she knew she was your friend too and not just my mom. As I think of all the children in Derby that you have helped raise and touched their lives your legacy will go on forever. You kissed their boo boos when they came to the office, gave them a pep talk when needed and scolded them if needed, just like moms do. You were not just a secretary but their support system when they were not at home. Also just think how much money you would have made if you charged everyone for all that therapy you have given. I loved hearing you counsel parents and staff when they came to the office. They left feeling much better than when they came into the office. You could make everyone feel so much better. You are so proud of your grandchildren and loved sharing about each one of them with me. You had such pride in your eyes as you talked about them. It was hard missing ball games as you got sick and you wanted to be there to support them. I was so glad that we took the trip to Alaska last year and had such a great time. “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal”. I’m going to need to hang on to all those memories as this heartache will be hard to get over. You are the sister I got to choose and I will love you forever and you will always be in my heart. I look forward to dancing in heaven with you.
Love you, Maretta

We watched a momma redbird tending to her babies today and commented how it reminded us of you. We are going to miss our times having pie for breakfast and most importantly the hugs, kisses and smiles we got every Sunday. Your smile lights up the world. Thank-you for treating our child so special all those years ago. Thank-you for being my friend. We'll love you forever and one more day! Josh, Carla and Mike Stroot
