I was a caregiver for Mr. Martinez. The first day I met him I asked him to what I should call him, everyone was calling him papa. He said call me Dad, son. He had me right there. I was with him for over a year with an extended “vacation” at Christmas and New Years and when I returned back to work, I walked in and he looked at me in shock and said “where have you been?” I nearly lost control of my bladder. He was a great person to have gotten to know and so was his family. Kim, Dana and family were so good to me. My sincere condolences to all of you, Dad was a great man and I enjoyed every day I spent with him even the “rough” days. He will be missed. Kim, I love you to pieces for all you did for me and for just being you, you are an amazing person.

Our condolences to the family. Uncle Gilbert was a wonderful, kind, silly man. Always had me laughing when we talked. I am so glad I got to see him at the family reunion in Texas. When he came to California he stayed with me and we talked and talked which brought back so many memories of my Dad through him. He never failed to call me on my birthday since his daughter Kim and I share the same day!! The many gifts he gave me will be cherished forever, every time I look into the mirror he made with my name on it I always think of him. I will miss his sense of humor. May he rest in peace now. Love, Carmen Argau his niece.

When I was around 6 he was my hero because I thought he saved my life. I pulled a cloth diaper out of a closet for my mom to change the baby. When I shook the diaper a scorpion fell out. I didn't know what it was and I screamed bloody murder. Uncle Gilbert was on leave from the service and he wore those massive boots. When he heard me scream he raced into the room, saw the scorpion just as it leaped toward me and smashed that thing flat with his boots. I think he set a record for the long jump. Uncle Gilbert to the rescue. I was so amazed at how quickly he reacted.
