Obituary for Anna Marie "Grandma Purple" Herod

DERBY- Herod, Anna Marie “Grandma Purple,” age 76, passed away Monday, August 8, 2011. Visitation 1-8 Wednesday, family present 5-8, at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby. Funeral service 2 pm Thursday, First United Methodist Church in Garden City. Burial 11 am Friday, Glenwood Cemetery (near Walnut, KS). Anna was a Home Economics teacher at Garden City High School for 29 years. She was a very proud grandma, a member of Kansas Retired Teachers, National Future Homemakers of America Leader, past member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City Pathfinders Sunday School Class, and loved to sew, bake, garden, play cards, and root for Kansas State University. Anna and Jon moved from Garden City to Derby about 3 years ago to be closer to her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Emma Kennedy; and brother Howard Kennedy. Survived by her husband, Jon Herod; children Jeff (Becki) Herod of Douglass, and Kathy (Bill) Winquist of Charlotte, NC; granddaughters Elliot, Emersyn and Edisyn Herod, plus a grandson to be born; siblings Dean (Cheryl) Kennedy, Winfield; Joe (Esther) Kennedy, Pittsburg; Wilbur (Janie) Kennedy, Stark; Marvin Kennedy, Chanute; Fred (Louella) Kennedy, San Antonio, TX; Vera (Bill) Wheeler, Walnut; and numerous nieces and nephews.
