Obituary for Jessie MacKay

Jessie MacKay
Jessie Irene Noeller MacKay, 92, went to meet her Lord on May 4, 2018 at Lincoln County Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born on December 14, 1925 southwest of Augusta, Kansas. She spent most of her life in the Augusta/Rose Hill area. She graduated from Rose Hill High School in 1942. Jessie married Harold Melvin MacKay in Newkirk, Oklahoma on November 9, 1942. She spent many years as a homemaker but also working as a riveter for Boeing during World War II. Jessie also worked in the Rose Hill School lunch room. Jessie worked many years at the Beverly Nursing Home in Rose Hill. After Harold passed, she went back to school to get her nursing degree and finished her career as a nurse at this nursing home and in private practice.
Jessie loved to garden with Harold and spent many hours canning their harvest. Jessie was accomplished at cake decorating, crocheting, knitting, and was a seamstress. She loved to quilt and enjoyed teaching others to quilt. Jessie loved games, especially cards and dominoes. She loved to water ski, fish and boat with family and friends.
Jessie is survived by her brother James (Ellen) Noeller, Sedgwick; sons Melving (Jeanie) MacKay, Hutchinson, Kansas; Carl (Michelle) MacKay, Choctaw, Oklahoma; and daughter, Evelyn Schroeder, Lincoln, Kansas; 5 grandchildren Monty (Teffanie) MacKay, Great Bend, Lynette Johnson, Hutchinson, Derek (Jennifer) MacKay, Kansas City, Alicia (Imad)Uddin, Jenks, Oklahoma, Amy (Robert)Clark, Mentor; 13 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, parents Fred and Prudence Noeller; brothers Fred, Henry, Art, Gus, Ellis, Emmit, Gerald, Frank, William; sisters Mary, June, Rose, Geraldine, Rosetta; 3 stillborn siblings; granddaughter Janel Schroeder-Phillips.
Jessie was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. Visitation will be 1-8 pm Friday, May 11, with family receiving friends 5-7 pm, funeral services will be held at 10 am Saturday, May 12, both at Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby. Interment will be in the Richland Cemetery, Douglas, Kansas.
In place of flowers, memorials may be made to Salina Church of Christ Youth Program, Lincoln Senior Center, or Rose Hill Senior Center.
