Wichita - Shurley, Wilmer "Gene" E. age 95, born Feb. 14, 1923, in Cedar County, MO, went to be with the Lord on Nov. 23, 2018. Gene served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during both World War II and the Korean War. He will be remembered for his jokes, orneriness, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Gene is preceded in death by his wife of 72yrs, Madaline (Richwine) Shurley; son, Kenneth Shurley; great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Stacy; parents, Goldia and John Shurley; brothers, Wayne and Vernal Shurley; sister, Wava Warford. He is survived by children, Sherelyn McLaury of Grifton, NC, Keith Shurley, Tim (Debra) Shurley, Mary (Bill) Sebastian all of Wichita, Jeff (Crystal) Shurley of Valley Center; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Beryl Harris, Glennice Wirt, Joan Main and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, a memorial can be sent to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202. A visitation will be held 1-8pm; family greeting 5-7pm Wednesday evening; Funeral at 2pm Thursday, Nov. 29th. both held at Culbertson-Smith Mortuary, 115 S. Seneca St. Wichita, KS 67213. Graveside service 1:30pm Friday, Nov. 30th at Ft. Scott National Cemetery, 900 E. National Ave Fort Scott, KS 66701.
