Wilma Fern Terry

September 12, 1919 — April 14, 2014

Terry, Wilma Fern (Fletcher), age 94, retired Defense Contracts Agency employee, passed away April 14, 2014. A visitation with the family will be on Friday, April 25, from 6:30 to 8 pm at Culbertson-Smith Mortuary, 115 S. Seneca St., Wichita. Funeral service, 10 am, Saturday, April 26, at West Side Baptist Church, with private interment to follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, 1824 N. Oliver Ave, Wichita.

Wilma became a Christian when she was 4 years old and was baptized at the Meridian Ave Baptist Church. Her church membership was transferred to the West Side Baptist Church when she was eight. Her joy in life was singing in a quartet with her mother, Madge Fletcher and her two sisters, Gaynell Joslin and Esther Talley. She sang in the North High School Glee Club and was chosen to sing in special honor quartets around the Wichita area.

She was born on September 12, 1919, at her grandparents home, Athea and John Reeves, at 426 N. Fern Street, Wichita. She moved with her parents, Madge, and Ben Fletcher, to Oklahoma and lived in a log cabin in Cleo Springs, OK until she was 3 years old. She lived at 455 N. Fern till she was 18 years old and married Millard Russell Terry. During the next 66 years Wilma and Millard raised two sons and acquired and maintained 25 rental units on the West side of Wichita. She is survived by her son Millard Dan (Paula) Terry, son Dale Russell (Pat) Terry, four grandchildren, Lanae Gaston, Dana (Gordon) Rogers, Jason (Trista) Terry, Mike (Elizabeth) Terry, and five great grandchildren, Sarah Rogers, Reid Rogers, Abigail Rogers, Brock Gaston, and William Terry.

Memorials may be given to the West Side Baptist Church, 304 S. Seneca St., Wichita, KS 67213 and or the Wichita Masonic Home, 401 S. Seneca, Wichita, KS 67213.
