Wilma Delila (Louthan) Eliot was born December 30, 1924, in Major County, Oklahoma. She was the fourth child and third daughter of Roy and Emma Louise (Bensch) Louthan, born in a log house on the family farm, southeast of Chester, Oklahoma. She attended Lakeside School.
Willma was united in marriage to Wayne LeRoy Eliot, December 24, 1942, in Dakota City, Nebraska. When her husband was serving in the war (World War II), she stayed on the farm and helped, while two of her brothers were also serving in the war. While Wayne was overseas, their first son, Wayne, Jr. was born on December 3, 1943 on his mother’s parents’ farm in Major County, Oklahoma. After the war, Wayne and Wilma lived in Canton, Oklahoma for a short time, from 1945 to 1948. Wayne did construction jobs and head time keeper at the Canton Dam. Lynn “Dianne” Eliot was born in Thomas, Oklahoma on December 9, 1946. Then they were transferred to Nebraska on construction work and their second son, James Allen Eliot, was born November 8, 1948, in McCook, Nebraska. The family moved to Wichita, Kansas 1951 until 1963.
Wilma was a housewife, Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader, and helped with Bible School, when the kids were young. They made their home in Canton, Oklahoma, McCook, Nebraska, Wichita, Kansas, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Haysville, Kansas.
Wilma worked for “Spartan” in Albuquerque, from February 1963 to June 1965; LearJet a short time, and then for Cessna Aircraft-Pawnee Division in Wiring and Metal Bond, until retiring in December 1985.
Wilma was a member of the Haysville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling, working in her flower beds and vegetable garden, sewing, and crocheting. She enjoyed being around her family and visiting with her brothers and sisters. Over the years she had given many of her afghans she had crocheted to family members and friends.
She and Wayne spent the last two years of their life at the Diversicare of Haysville, Kansas, until they were called to their Heavenly Home. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, who gave joy to those around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Emma Louise (Bensch) Louthan; husband of 72+ years, Wayne L. Eliot, Sr., son James Eliot; grandson Charles Eliot; two brothers, Elden and Earnest Louthan, and two sisters, Agnes Holub and Myrtle Cronkhite. She is survived by her children Wayne, Jr. (Carol) Eliot of Haysville; daughter-in-law, Marie Eliot of Wichita; Dianne (James) Houchin of Derby; eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren; one brother, two sisters and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with Haysville United Methodist Church, 601 E. Grand Ave., Haysville, KS 67060, and Good Shepherd Hospice, 7829 E. Rockhill Ste. 403, Wichita, KS 67206.
