William G. “Bill” and Pearle H. Meeker. A joint graveside remembrance for Bill and Pearle Meeker will be held at 10AM on June 3, 2014 at the Belle Plaine Cemetery, Belle Plaine, Kansas. Military honors will be rendered in recognition of Bill’s World War II service. William was born February 21, 1918 to Ione and Maybelle Meeker of Belle Plaine, Kansas. He attended Wichita High School East and Wichita State University. During World War II, he served in the Navy Air Corps and was stationed on Tinian Island in the North Pacific. When the war ended, he returned to Wichita where he was employed by Beech Aircraft for forty years. Bill was a cross-country biker and especially enjoyed his association with members of the OZ Bicycle Club. Pearle was born July 31, 1920 at Kanopolis, Kansas to Rosa and Herbert Hurley. Pearle was a graduate of the Venus Academy, Wichita, and also attended Wichita Business Preparatory College and Wichita State University. During World War II, Pearle was a secretary at Headquarters, Army Air Corps, Washington D.C. When the war was drawing to a close, she returned to Wichita and was employed by Bever, Dye, Mustard and Belin, Tax Attorneys, where she spent thirty-seven years as senior secretary-office manager. Pearle’s special interest during her business career was working with young people in the school system, and with several business clubs. She also enjoyed writing poetry and her oil painting. Upon their retirement, the Meekers built a home on Table Rock Lake, Kimberling City, Missouri, and later moved to Springfield. Both enjoyed extensive travel adventures, and were very fond of their favorite pet, Roxy. Bill passed from this life on May 7, 2014. Pearle passed from this life on October 24, 2013. The Meekers are survived by a galaxy of siblings, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, and great-grand nieces and nephews.
