She was born and raised at home on the family farm and worked very hard helping with the chores. She attended a one-room country school outside of Lehigh. Her dad would take the girls to and from school in a lumber wagon during the dustbowl days when they could barely see their way home. Vivian was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was baptized August 17, 1924 and confirmed April 9, 1939. She became a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Derby, KS, July 18, 1993. Around 1942, the family moved to Hillsboro. Vivian worked at the Tip Top Creamery as an egg candler and the Hillsboro Home Bakery as a waitress. The biggest job of her life was a housewife and mother. She married Edward C. McCleave on February 26, 1950 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hillsboro. She had one son and three daughters. On March 22, 1955, she lost her second child, Beverly Ann, age 2 months, to pneumonia. It was one of the hardest times in Vivian's life. In 1966, the family moved to Haysville. In 2004 her battle with Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma cancer began. She succumbed to the disease on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 in Wichita, at the age of 85. Her parents and daughter precede her in death.
