Virginia Lee Steadman

Virginia "Gig" Lee (Mott) Steadman, age 78, of Mulvane, died Friday afternoon, April 12, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Virginia was born on November 4, 1934 in Bazaar, Kansas

to Glen and Eva (Burton) Mott. She grew up in Chase County, Kansas and attended school at Rock Creek and Cottonwood Falls.

At age 16, Virginia eloped and married John Henry Steadman, Jr., in Council Grove, Kansas on June 26, 1951. John and Virginia had seven children, Debra, Trudy, Cheri, Greg, Kevin, Tani, and Kyle. John and Virginia were married 61 years.

Virginia was first and foremost a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Additionally, she worked as a school bus driver, study hall monitor, and secretary. She served her community as a U.S.D. 263 School Board Member, P.T.O. President, Mulvane Booster Club Secretary, Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, Volunteer Teacher's Aid, and was the long serving Secretary/Treasurer of the South Central Baseball League. Virginia is preceded in death by her parents; and children Cheri and Kevin. She is survived by her husband, John; daughter, Debra Paulsen and her husband Larry of Victorville, California; daughter Trudy Boyer and her husband Dennis of Mulvane; son Greg Steadman and his wife Kelly of Derby; daughter Tani Schule of Mulvane; son Kyle Steadman and his wife Shelly of Mulvane; granddaughter Taryn Shively and her husband Steve of Mulvane; grandson Eric Paulsen and his wife Kelly of Rancho Santa Margarita, California; granddaughter Angela Lake and her husband Chris of Hobson, Texas; grandson Jared Steadman and his wife Amy of Derby, grandson Drew Steadman of Wichita; grandson Austin Steadman of Derby; sister Sondra Lawless and her husband Robert of Edmond, Oklahoma; brother Garry Mott and his wife Mary Ann of Chase County, Kansas, sister Anita Morrison and her husband Carl of Bessemer City, North Carolina; 11 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandson. Visitation will be held Monday from 2-8 pm with the family greeting friends from 5-8pm at Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Road, Derby. Funeral Services will also be held at the mortuary on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 10:00am. Burial will be in Bazaar, Kansas Cemetery at 2:00pm. Memorials have been established with Villa Maria and the American Cancer Society.
