Virginia Merlene Rogers

Virginia M. Rogers, 92, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2017. She was born January 24, 1925 in Wellington, KS to Farah and Lena (Hall) Ellis. Virginia was a longtime Wellington resident and a graduate from Wellington High School. She worked as a switchboard operator and then as a homemaker and farm wife. Virginia was a member of the Stitch & Chatter Club of Belle Plaine. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marion Rogers; brother, Kenneth Ellis; and son-in-law, Jim Piechocki. Virginia is survived by her children, Wanda Piechocki, David (Sandra) Rogers, and Chris Rogers; grandchildren, Keith (Karen) Rogers, Bradley Rogers, Nathan (Rachel) Rogers, Jessica Rogers, and Monica (Mike) Santasiero; great-grandchildren, Relic Rogers, Chris Figueroa, Kaylee Figueroa, Rachelle Besser, and Dominic Conlon; sister-in-law, Irene Ellis; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation: Thursday, from 3 to 8 pm with family present between 5 and 7 pm at Hatfield-Smith Mortuary, 219 W. 2nd, Belle Plaine, KS 67013. Funeral: 10 am, Friday, March 10, 2017 at the First Baptist Church, 612 N. Linden St., Belle Plaine, KS 67013. Interment to follow at Council Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
