Chief Seattle once said, “There is no death, only a change of worlds.” Virginia L Nelson (Scofield) of Derby, passed into that new world on Wednesday, May 29, 2024. Virginia (Ginny) was born to Edwin and Julia Scofield in Wichita, Kansas, and spent time in Howard, Kansas on a farm owned and operated by her parents. She is a graduate of her beloved
Wichita North High School and worked for the City of Wichita and St. Joseph Hospital before retiring.
Ginny loved home improvement projects, sewing and volunteering at several charitable organizations and at the Sedgwick County Zoo. Ginny also loved taking care of and spoiling all her pets. She was an avid gardener and every fall, loved taking on her arch enemy, falling leaves.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, and brother Ray Scofield and many aunts and uncles, brothers and sisters in law and other immediate family members. She is survived by a son, Michael (Lynn) of Tulalip, Washington, a daughter, Michelle (Dan) Deniston of Coldspring, Texas and husband Phil. She also has six grandchildren, 17 Great-Grandchildren and
2 Great-Great Grandchildren.
No services are planned at this time, but a Celebration of life will be scheduled in the future.
Any memorials should be made to the Sedgwick County Zoo.
