McPheeters, Virginia “Gini” L. (Spencer), 89, retired Southwest Bell operator and repair technician, died Sunday, May 5, 2013. Gini was born January 14, 1924 in Midway, KS, and lived for many years in Wichita, and recently at Georgetown Village. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Nellie Spencer, husband Max McPheeters, brother Howard Spencer, and a sister Gwen Thiel. Survivors include sisters Carol Cree of Dallas, TX; Marilyn Mitchael and husband Carl of Wichita; Nor Masters and husband John of Wichita; Elaine Lebsack of Overland Park, KS; cousins Harrison and Darlene Spencer of Oklahoma City, OK as well as many (great) nieces and nephews. She was an avid Chiefs and Jayhawks fan, and enjoyed volunteering at St. Anne Catholic Church, The Lord’s Diner, The Sedgwick County Zoo, Telephone Pioneers, and many others. Gini entertained at parties as a clown. She was a people-person and loved a good party, and people loved being around her. A Celebration of Life event has been set for Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby. Family and friends will share stories of Gini. Memorials have been established with St. Anne Catholic Church, 2801 S. Seneca, Wichita, KS 67217, and Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside, Wichita, KS 67219.
