Haines, Virginia (Kunkel), 94, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014. Visitation 1-8 p.m. Tuesday, at Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home, 507 S. Maple, Douglass. Funeral service 1 p.m. Wednesday, at Douglass United Methodist Church, 204 S. Willow. Virginia was very involved in the church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, singing in the choir, and helping out in any way she could. She was also a member of Order of the Eastern Star and PEO. Preceded in death by parents, Fred and Jessie Englund; husbands W.G. “Mike” Kunkel and Edward Haines; sisters Juanita McKelvy, Freida Mae Withrow, Verona Bixler; and brother Karl Englund. Survived by son Glenn (Marion) Kunkel, Olathe; grandchildren Michael Kunkel and Susan Dunaway; great-grandchildren Tyler, Foster, and Katy Kunkel, Eli and Liam Dunaway; step-children Max Haines, Salina, Larry Haines, and Mary Ross, Wichita; brother Fred Englund, Amarillo, Tex.; sister Yvonna Hill, Enid, Okla. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with Douglass United Methodist Church, 507 S. Maple, Douglass, KS 67039.
