Virginia Joyce Gilbert

Derby - Gilbert, Virginia “Ginger” J., age 70, retired Derby Public Librarian and former Ledford Gage Lab, Inc. co-owner, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, March 23, 2013. Ginger was born in Montgomery, AL on Aug. 12, 1942. She was the oldest of 6 children. Ginger’s family came to Derby in 1958 after traveling the world as an air force family. She graduated from Derby High School in 1961 and married her high school sweetheart, Dennis in 1962. She was active in the St. Mary Altar Society and the Knights of Columbus Ladies’ Auxiliary. She remained in Derby until 2010, moving to Lake Arrowhead in Medicine Lodge, after retirement. Ginger had a passion for reading and gardening. She liked to do cross stitch and other crafts. She enjoyed being outdoors and loved to travel. We will miss her potato salad. Recitation of the Rosary 7pm Friday, April 5th, Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby. Memorial Mass 10am Saturday, April 6th, St. Mary Faith Center, 2300 E. Meadowlark, Derby. Ginger was preceded in death by her father, Rowland LaCrosse. She is survived by her mother, Margaret LaCrosse; husband of 50 years, Dennis Gilbert; sons, Shawn (Judy) Gilbert; Scott (Sherry) Gilbert; grandchildren, Ryan, Kelli, Myles, Shane, Chad and Shanna; siblings, Tom (Gloria) LaCrosse, MaryAnne Hubbert, Margaret E. LaCrosse, Theresa (Steve) Myers, Christine LaCrosse and Ellen (Dave) Cain; numerous nieces and nephews.
