Viola M. Mode

Viola M. Mode, age 81, passed away September 3, 2021.

Born September 12, 1939 in Wichita, she was the daughter of Melvin D. and Catherine Butterfield. She married Edgar Forrest Mode on October 31, 1959, in Wichita. He preceded her in death on June 27, 2011.

Viola was an avid bowler and golfer. In earlier years, she loved softball and coaching children. After Ed’s retirement, they travelled together.

She is survived by four children: Tina Sternberger, Kevin Mode, Kent Mode, and Kurt Mode; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Melvin Butterfield. She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Butterfield.

Visitation 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday, September 8, at Smith Mortuary in Derby. Memorials have been established with the Kansas Humane Society, and the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
