Verlyn "Bud" Lett

July 29, 1947 — November 4, 2023

On November 4, 2023, Verlyn “Bud” Lett passed into eternal rest to be with his Lord, following a recent open heart surgery.


Verlyn Lovell Lett was born on July 29, 1947 to Lovell Dervid Lett and Lucy Marian Gillette Fulps Lett of Parsons, Kansas. From an early age, he was referred to as “Bud,” which became his lifelong nickname.


He was a graduate of Parsons High school class of 1965. He attended Parsons Jr College before joining the U.S. Navy. After Navy “boot camp” at Great Lakes, IL he trained in aerography at Lakehurst, NJ. and was stationed at Olathe Naval Air Base. He completed his Navy service as a Petty Officer 3rd Class.


On August 26, 1967, he married Janice Marie Anderson of Parsons and from their marriage, he was blessed with four children: Trisha, Ryan, Jeremy, and Jamie.


On November 28, 1985 he married Janice Charleen Wages of Parsons. This month they would have celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary. They have resided in Derby, KS for 30 years.


Bud worked a number of years in Construction. Bud was a code enforcer for Sedgwick county until retiring in October of 2016.


Bud was very proud of his family and loved family the most.


He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Ryan; great-grandchild, Brynlee Carlene Lett; brothers, Ervin H., “Bill,” and Bob Ray Lett; and sisters, Bonnie Jean Lett Corum and Patricia Jeanne Fulps Huff.


He is survived by his children, Trisha Butler (Paxton Lopeman) of Lawrence, KS; Jeremy Lett of Parsons, KS; Jamie (Joel) Shaw of Overland Park, KS ; his bonus children Todd (Jessica) Hatfield of Rose Hill, KS and Amy (Dayne) Fentress of Rockledge, FL ; grandsons, Braden Dean Lett; T.J. Hatfield, Kaleb Hatfield, John Hatfield ; granddaughters, Heather (Craig) Heady , Ashley Ingalsbe, Hailey (Nathan) Sullivan, Lorren Koger, Estella June “Stella,” and Gwendolyn Marie “Gwen” Shaw; Four bonus granddaughters Amanda, Mary, Elena, and Sara Fentress,; Twelve Great-Grandchildren; his sister, Marilyn K. Lett Wallace; and numerous nieces, nephews; and their families, and his dog Izzy.


The celebration of life will be held on Saturday November 11th at 3pm at Harvest Church 230 W. Fernell St. Derby, KS.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Harvest Church where Bud encountered the love of Jesus.


Bud will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
