Vaughn G. Nun, 75, of Derby, KS, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026, from complications of pancreatic cancer.

He was born on October 19, 1950, in Geneva, NE, to Angeline (Stych) and George Nun. He grew up on a farm outside of Ohiowa, NE and graduated from Ohiowa High School in 1968. He received a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Nebraska in 1972 and a Master of Science in Management and Human Relations from Abilene Christian University in 1985.

He received his commission through the Air Force ROTC program in 1972. He was stationed at Mather AFB, Ellsworth AFB, Offutt AFB (twice), Dyess AFB, and McConnell AFB. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1993. After his retirement from the Air Force, he was a financial advisor for many years and showed his dedication to his clients, continuing to work until his final days.

He was active in his community. He served on the Derby City Council and was a long-time member of the Derby Rotary Club. He was a Charter Member of Cross of Glory Lutheran Church and in more recent years attended First Presbyterian Church.

Family meant everything to Vaughn. He enjoyed attending ballgames (online and in person), concerts, graduations, weddings, family vacations, family reunions or just hanging out with the family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Summer Peck. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Susan Nun; children: Staci (Tracy) Armstrong, Alicia (Corey) Reeves, Tamara (Trevor) Moyo, and Eric (Crissey) Nun; grandchildren: Will and Zach Armstrong, Brianna and Cooper Reeves, Andela and JT Moyo, and Vaughn and Emmitt Nun. He is also survived by his sister, Bonnie Rippe and brother, Gorlyn Nun.

A Celebration of Life will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Derby, KS on July 11, 2026 at 1030am. A private family service for committal of ashes will be at Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield, Kansas at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Derby, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, or Gary Sinise Foundation.
