V. Joan (Floyd) Phillips, 86, passed away peacefully, Thursday, November 22, 2018. She was born March 23, 1932, to Stanley and LaRean Floyd, in rural Wellington (near Anson), KS. She graduated from Emporia State University in 1956. On August 9, 1958, she married George A. Phillips. He preceded her in death on April 14, 2017, after 59 years of marriage. Joan dedicated 41 years of her life as a business education teacher. She taught at Milton, Southeast High, South High, Butler Community College, McConnell AFB, and Derby Alternative School. Joan retired in 1994. She touched many lives during her teaching career. Above all, her family was the most important thing to her. Her heart and soul was bigger than life. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, December 1, Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby. She is preceded in death by her husband, George; parents, Stanley and LaRean Floyd; sister, Bonita Peck; brothers-in-law, Lawrence Peck and Junior Farrier; son-in-law, Richard Henry. Survivors: son Scott (Melissa), of Owasso, OK; daughter, Gale Henry, of Derby; brother, Robert Floyd (Stanley Ann); brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Frank and Phyllis Phillips; grandchildren, Jennifer Fleming (Zachary), Jessica Hudson, Scotty Henry (Taylor) and Cory Henry; great-grandchildren, Lynnlee, Payton, Sloan, and a grandson on the way; many special nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Kindred Hospice, 9229 E 37th St N #102b, Wichita, KS 67226.
