Vallon “Ray” Harper, age 86, Udall, Kansas, passed away at his residence on September 1, 2018. Vallon was born on July 10, 1932, to Dave Sylvane and Mary Nell White Harper. Vallon graduated from Loco Oklahoma High School in 1950. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country from 1951 to 1971. Vallon loved his work. He did many things and accomplished much in his lifetime. In addition to retiring from the United States Air Force, he also retired from Vulcan Chemicals. Vallon was known for his love of music, gardening, taking care of his fruit trees, and farming. In the summertime, he would grow watermelon, cantaloupe, tomatoes, squash and he would always give them away to family, neighbors and friends. Vallon is preceded in death by his parents, Dave Sylvane and Mary Nell White; one sister Leota Faye Harper Hayes of Lawton, Ok. Vallon is survived by his wife, Norma Jean “Jeannie” Harper of the Udall; four sons, Russell Kercher (Debbie) of Haysville, Eddie Kercher (Kim) of Derby, Donnie Harper (Fong) of Guam, and Dave Harper (Bobbie) of Udall; four daughters, Sharron Harper, Suzetta Harper, Lajuana Harper, all of Costa Rica and Vallerina Harper Miller (Alan) of Haysville; 20 grandchildren and 31 of great grandchildren; one brother Terry Harper (Norma) of Kismet. A private Memorial Service will be held at a later time.
