Valeda Emily Pinick

Valeda “Val” Emily Pinick, nee Lohse, of Mulvane, KS, entered into the arms of Jesus on May 4, 2025.

She was born April 8, 1937, in Hanover, KS, to parents Walter and Eleanor Lohse. She was baptized on April 18, 1937and confirmed on March 18, 1951, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hanover, KS. Val graduated from Hanover High School in 1955. She got a job directly from high school at Washburn University and then attended a few classes. Working at Washburn became her lifelong career.

Beginning in April 1957, she had a whirlwind courtship with her future husband, who initially only knew her as the brown-eyed girl. Engaged in June, Valeda married Edwin Pinick on December 1, 1957. They were blessed with two children: Gregg (Melanie) Pinick and Debra (Ian) Cook. They have five grandchildren: Travis (Sara) Pinick, Kelcie (Kelan) Bragg, Siara Pinick, Kyle (Abby) Farmer, and David Cook. They have nine great-grandchildren: Riese, Sadie, and Leo Pinick; Christopher, Emery, and Lainey Bragg; Owen and Ella Farmer; and Brian Cook. Besides her family, Val is survived by a sister, Carol (Ron) Carlson, a brother, Richard (Judy) Lohse, and sisters-in-law, Carol Lohse, Barb Lohse, and Maggie Pinick. Val was preceded in death by her husband Edwin, her parents, an infant brother, brothers Eldred Lohse and Robert Lohse, and sister Marilyn Dunn. In addition, Val loved many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30am, on Saturday, June 28, at Faith Lutheran Church (1716 SW Gage Blvd), Topeka. A committal service will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka. In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift can be made to The Pinick Family Scholarship Endowment at Concordia University, Nebraska, 800 N Columbia Ave, Seward, NE 68434.
