Thomas “Tom” Whitmer, 71, passed away Monday, March 28, 2011. He moved to Wichita in the early 1960’s working for the Burroughs Corporation and Eutectic Corporation. Tom later ventured out forming his business of Austenite and then Memorial Art Monument Company. He had many hobbies including collecting and restoring 18th and 19th century furniture as well as old watches and clocks. Tom was an avid corvette enthusiast. Survivors include his wife, Judy; sons, Tom and his wife Laura Whitmer of Wichita, Bill and his wife Kathy Whitmer of Overland Park; daughter, Jamie Porter of Wichita; brothers, Chuck and his wife Coleen Whitmer of Parkville, MO, Jim and his wife Myrna Whitmer of Oklahoma City, OK; 11 grandchildren. Services will be held at 1pm, Friday, April 1, 2011 at Grace Presbyterian Church, 5002 E. Douglas, Wichita. Viewing will be prior to services beginning at noon at the church.
