Thomas Lee Frye Jr, 75, of Haysville passed away peacefully in his home on January 25, 2022.
Tom worked for many years in the Aircraft field at Boeing and Spirit Aerospace where he was a mechanic, shop steward, and Union steward. He had always been a big sports guy, but especially loved his Wichita State Shockers. Tom spent his younger days playing minor league baseball and carried his love for the game to children throughout his life. In 1991, Tom took his girls softball team The Haysville Lightning on to win the 18u State tournament with not a single player over the age of 16. Tom took a break from coaching after his girls grew up, but found his way back to the fields in 2005 when he began coaching his grandson and formed the Roadrunners. Tom and his Roadrunners racked up lots of hardware over the years as an 8u machine-pitch team and took home the State title as well. If you ever wanted to find him you never checked at his house first, always the ball fields. If he wasn’t there he was normally at his friend’s card shop down the road. That was what Tom loved more than life itself. Tom leaves behind a legacy when it comes to youth baseball in the South Wichita/Haysville area.
He was preceded in death by his Daughter and Grandson, Sherri and Crew Panhorst (Frye); his beloved Grandma Carter; his Aunt Dollie Haskins; his Father-in-law and sidekick Jose Asuncion; and his brother Preston Adams.
Tom is survived by wife Olivia; Daughter and Grandson Cindy and Tanner Frye all of the home; his son Skyler of the Philippines; Uncle Wayne Haskins; Aunt Roxie Conkle; Brother Gary Adams; and sisters Judy Moffitt, Patsy Horn, and Nancy Jantz.
The family would also like to recognize two very important ladies in Tom’s journey through Dementia/Parkinson’s these past years. Candace Showalter and Amy Dungan have been true blessings for our family as Tom’s Hospice Nurse and Aide since the beginning. With their loving and compassionate care they have made this journey more bearable and less heartbreaking for Dad and our family. We are forever grateful to have had these angels by our sides.
