Tom was born May 20, 1943 to James and Mary Brosius, in Kansas City, Missouri. His family moved to Shawnee, KS where Tom attended elementary and middle school. He loved riding bikes, collecting baseball cards and playing baseball in summer leagues. In 1958, the family moved to Wichita, KS where he started attending Wichita East High as a Sophomore. Tom joined the school’s baseball team playing 3 rd base and led the Wichita city leagues in home runs. He also used that right arm to start a paper route. Tom continued his education at Emporia State University after receiving a baseball scholarship, but was cut short due to enlisting and starting his courageous journey in the United States Navy in 1964. Stationed at the Naval Station in Long Beach, California, he improved his skills as a radio operator and perfected the complexities of Morse code. Tom boarded the mine sweep USS Engage in 1965 and manned the blue waters for 2 Vietnam tours until he honorably discharged in 1969. Tom had really fond memories about his service life and was a true testament of his commitment to his country.
After the Navy, Tom moved back to Wichita where he attended Wichita State University working on his business degree. During that time, he traveled and sold pharmaceuticals for Bristol Myers. In 1978, he started his career at Boeing in Industrial Engineering where he was loved and respected by so many of his employees. He loved playing golf in the Boeing league all the way up to his retirement. Tom retired in 2005 as an Engineering Manager. After retirement, he continued to play golf, read lots of books, and volunteered at the grandkid’s elementary schools.
In 1982, Tom married his forever love, Rhonda, and shared 42 years of marriage together. They lived a simple
happy life spending time with lots of family, raising kids and grandkids. Tom and Rhonda cherished their role as active members of Wichita First Church of the Nazarene for so many years. Tom held the position of head usher for almost 15 years. If you attended or visited that church during those years, you rarely got past the sanctuary without a big hug from Tom, which was one of his amazing ways of welcoming everyone and sharing the love of Jesus.
Tom was diagnosed with AL Amyloidosis in 2002. He was a warrior during his health journey over the last years. His unwavering bravery, strength and kindness was a testimony to all his family, friends, nurses and doctors.
