Stephen M. Caine was born October 25, 1940, in New York City. He died Saturday, October 5, 2024 in Wichita.
He graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1962 with a degree in Journalism and minor in Portuguese.
He moved to Wichita in April 1968 to pursue his interests in aviation and journalism.
Joining Cessna Aircraft Company in 1968 as an Editor/Writer for the Company's Public Relations Department, he later became Assistant Public Relations Director before moving to Beech Aircraft Corporation in 1978 as Director-Public Relations.
An active pilot most of his adult life, he flew most single and multi-engine aircraft models produced by both companies.
Prior to joining Beech Aircraft, he was employed at the Wichita/Sedgwick County Department of Community Health as Director of Health Education and Public Relations.
Before moving to Kansas, he was a writer/editor for the Associated Press in Albuquerque, as well as at Field Command, Defense Atomic Support Agency at Sandia Base.
Caine served with the U.S. Navy as a broadcast and newspaper journalist at Keflavik International Airport in Iceland, and aboard the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid. During his tenure in Iceland, he was affiliated with Armed Forces Radio and Television Service, where he wrote and delivered on-air newscasts as well as serving as editor of the Naval Base newspaper.
In the mid-1960's, he owned a pizza restaurant in Albuquerque.
His daughter, Julie, was born in October 1967 in Albuquerque; she resides in Berkeley, CA, where she is an editor for National Public Radio.
Caine was affiliated with a masonic organization in Albuquerque, and was a member of the International Council of Industrial Communicators.
Hobbies included photography, skiing, camping, electronics and woodworking.
He was an accredited member of Public Relations Society of America.
He was married to the love of his life, Betty, who added enormous happiness to his life throughout their many years together.
