Shirley A. Shipman

June 6, 1945 — June 28, 2025

Rose Hill – Shirley Ann Shipman, 80, passed away on June 28, 2025. She was born on June 6, 1945, to George and Mary Prewit in Berryville, Arkansas.

Shirley was a devoted mother, loving grandmother, and cherished friend. She worked at Coleman (Johnson Controls) for over 20 years. She had a passion for arts and crafts and took pride in crocheting beautiful rugs. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—whether it was working on puzzles to pass the time or relaxing with a game of solitaire on her computer.

A spirited traveler, Shirley embraced the thrill of discovering new places as well as revisiting familiar ones. She especially loved trips to Las Vegas, where she delighted in the excitement of gambling. She also treasured visits to Missouri, sharing those moments with her beloved sisters and her grandson, Gage.

Shirley spent her early years in Arkansas before moving to Kansas, where she lived in several towns before making Belle Plaine her forever home. At 18, she met the love of her life, George Shipman, and their connection was instant. The two married and soon welcomed their only child, Rick Shipman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 49 years, George Shipman; and her brother, Austin Prewit.

Shirley is survived by her son, Rick; grandchildren, Baillee Shipman, Gage (Shanna) Shipman, and Colt Shipman; and her five siblings.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby, Kansas 67037.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside St., Wichita, KS 67219.
