Sharla passed away in the presence of her loved ones on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at the age of 60. She is preceded in death by her mother Marge Willis.
Sharla is survived by her father Danny Rose; children Schrrie Schmeidler (Jeff), Terri, Crystal (Mike), Eric (Annabel), and Aleah; sister Shelly Bedker; stepfather Wendell Willis; grandchildren Hailey, Lanie, Callie, Madilyn, Jacob, and Penelope. Sharla’s love for her children and grandchildren is a promise that is not bound by time or horizons. Our promise is to never forget all that she was.
Her life was a testament of her undying strength. From a young age she embraced challenges as growing pains. She never missed an opportunity to teach her children to be loving, caring, thankful for what they have, give selflessly to others, and always extend a helping hand. Sharla gave without hesitation which ensured that her children knew what it looked like to have a giving heart.
Sharla’s heart reflected her unwavering devotion to her family. She was a devoted Mother, Gamma, Sister, and Daughter. She shared her passion for giving and caring for others in all aspects of life. Her happiness was truly found in the times where she was caring for others.
Sharla’s professional stewardship began at the young age of 16 where she would wash wheelchairs in the basement of a hospital that her mother worked at. While her children were small, she received her childcare license. For many years she ran an in-home daycare where she loved and nurtured many young children. Her caring heart and gentle hands will allow her legacy to carry on through them as well. Once all of Sharla’s children were in school, she followed her compassionate skill set right into healthcare providing quality care to people who needed it most. She began her journey by working in many clinics, eventually transitioning to the hospital side of healthcare at Wesley Medical Center. For many years she worked in medical records in addition to the Surgery Oncology floor. Sharla then decided to join the Via Christi/St. Francis community working in the resource pool. Her final stop in her healthcare journey was at St. Teresa. Sharla took great pride in the care that she provided both at the bedside and in the clerical aspect. She treated many patients and their families with the same caring heart that she would her very own loved ones.
Sharla’s children came across a note in her phone that read. “If anyone were to ask me what my greatest accomplishment was in life, I would say without hesitation; my children”. To the world Sharla was just one person, but to her children she was the world.
A celebration of life will be held on August 2, 2024, from 10:00am-3:00pm at Botanica Gardens in Lotus Hall.
