Ryan Craig Madden

Ryan Madden was born in Rapid City, SD in 1970. He graduated from RC Central High School and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Redlands, California.

Ryan met the love of his life and soulmate, Jane Schmaltz, while working in Minnesota. They moved to Arizona in 2001 where they resided for 23 years and moved to Derby, KS in 2024. Ryan was a long-time employee at the University of Phoenix where he was instrumental in merging his design and computer coding talent as a standout UX Designer. He was referred to as Ryan the Great due to his amazing talent and professionalism.

Ryan had a calm and quiet presence and loved his family and pets deeply, especially his Corgi, Alex. Ryan was a talented graphic designer and artist and enjoyed writing and illustrating his graphic novel stories. His free time was spent playing computer games, reading, and honing his gourmet cooking skills by preparing incredible dishes and breads.

Ryan is survived by Jane Schmaltz, his partner and best friend for more than 20 years. She describes him as the most brilliant, loving and amazing person she has ever met and was blessed to share his life. Also surviving are his mother, Elaine Madden Dubej, Don Dubej, his father figure for many years. Ryan has two brothers: Chad (Laura) of Carson City, NV, Troy (Corie) of Ankeny, IA, and one sister, Tanya (Justin) Greer. Two nieces, Mikayla Madden and Avianna Greer. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Ryan was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Madden, his grandparents, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

There will be a celebration of life at a later date. Memorials in Ryan’s name may be made to any animal shelter or to Storybook Island in Rapid City, SD.
