Ruben Estel Nungesser, 92, passed away in his home on July 8, 2020 with his loving wife of 72 years, Betty, by his side. He was born July 5, 1928 in a farmhouse outside of Mountain Grove, Missouri to Clair and Ethel Nungesser. He joined his brothers in Wichita, KS to find work. Within two weeks, he met Betty, and they were married two months later. They moved to Mulvane in September of 1951, where he opened his own business, Nungesser Plumbing, Heating and Air. He became a master plumber, achieving the highest ever score on the licensing exam to date. He retired from plumbing in 1990 and then built houses before retiring for good. He enjoyed rebuilding Model A’s, fishing, hunting, woodworking, and gardening. Most of all, he enjoyed his grandchildren. His faith was quiet and personal, but it was the foundation of how he treated everyone around him.
Ruben was preceded in death by his parents, Clair and Ethel; and his siblings, Paul, Fred, Eunice, and Don. He is survived by his wife, Betty; their five children, Billy Nungesser, Jim (Carolyn) Nungesser, Dale (Diane) Nungesser, Ethel (Mike) Eddingfield, and Karen Iverson; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation with family present will be at 10:00am on Monday, July 13, prior to the funeral service at 11:00am at the Mulvane First Baptist Church, 1020 N 2nd Ave, Mulvane. Burial will follow at the Mulvane Cemetery.
