Roy Leon Penner

Roy L. Penner, 80, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2015. Roy was known in the Douglass area for his years as a banker, insurance agency owner, real estate agent, and appraiser, as well as serving as mayor for the city of Douglass. He enjoyed golfing, coaching youth sports, and playing his guitar. Preceded in death by his first wife, Celia (Widick); sister Linda Unruh; brothers Irwin, Oliver, Wesley, and Joseph. Survived by his wife, Margaret (Graves); sons Douglas (Diane) Penner of Sammamish, WA and Martin (Alice) Penner of Bentonville, AR; grandchildren Christy, Kevin, Kristal, and Kyle; and sister Lillian Miller. Funeral service 10 a.m., Saturday, July 11, at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby. Interment to follow at Benton Cemetery, Benton, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with Winfield Rest Haven, 1611 Ritchie St.,Winfield, KS 67156; Rivercross Hospice, 251 Whittier St., Wichita, KS 67207; and William Newton Hospital, 1300 E. 5th St., Winfield, KS 67156, where Roy volunteered.
