Rozalia Carolina (Gellenovia) Hoyt
Rose Caroline Hoyt, 84, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at the Holiday Resort nursing facility in Salina, Kansas. Rose was born April 13, 1927, in the small village of Hronske Kosehy in Czechoslovakia. As war broke out in her country, her family immigrated to America, sailing from France on the RMS Aquitania, and arriving in New York at the U.S. Naval Yard in January 1934. Her family lived in New York City, where Rose met her future husband, Lucius “Sonny” Hoyt. They married on September 25, 1948. In 1951, they moved to Sonny’s home town of Winfield, Kansas, and then in 1953 they moved to Derby. Rose was a resident of Derby for 63 years until moving to the Holiday Resort nursing facility in Salina, Kansas, in 2009. Rose was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a homemaker, and also worked for Industrial Uniform Company until she retired. Rose loved bingo and traveling the country with her husband. Rose is preceded in death by her husband, Lucius “Sonny” Earl Hoyt; her father, Stefan Gellen; her mother and stepfather, Paul and Mary Slusny; and her brother, John. She is survived by her sons, Michael (Diane) Hoyt, Lindsborg, and Patrick Hoyt, Shawnee Mission, and her grandchildren, Charlie Hoyt, Derby, and Teresa Hoyt, Salina. Visitation will be 10 am - 8 pm Friday, with Recitation of the Rosary at 7 pm at Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby. Funeral Mass will be 10 am Saturday, St. Mary Faith Center, 2300 E. Meadowlark, Derby, with interment following at Highland Cemetery in Winfield. Memorials have been established with The Cancer Center of Kansas, 818 N.
