Ronald Lee Varney

Ronald (Ron) L. Varney, 71 years old, passed away September 27, 2024 at his home in Derby, Ks. He was born October 17, 1952 in Hutchinson, Kansas to Vincent and Anna Varney.

He worked for Evergy for 33 years and retired in 2015. He was a big Chiefs fan.

He is survived by his wife Kristy, one son Shawn Thornbrugh (Carin Sander), three grandchildren Kendall, Zack and Maggie, three great-grandsons, one sister Norma Blick, two brothers Dean Varney and Curtis (Jennifer) Varney, and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a visitation 5-7pm Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Smith Mortuary in Derby. Graveside services 1:00 pm Thursday, Oct. 3, at Hillcrest Cemetery. Memorial may be made to the American Cancer Society.
