Ronald Dee Muhlenbruch (Ron) was born November 16th, 1942 to Ruth and Cliff Muhlenbruch. He graduated from North High in 1960, (Wichita) and Wichita State University in 1965 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. He married Wilburta Sue Binford on September 10, 1965 just three months after he proposed to her! They were married at University Friends Church. Soon after he was drafted to serve in the Vietnam War but due to his Quaker faith and beliefs he chose to be a conscientious objector and worked for two years as a nurse aide at St. Francis hospital. They resided in Wichita, Kansas for approximately seven years after Ron and Sue were married. In 1972 they had their daughter Marianne. They moved to Hutchinson, Kansas for Ron to continue his career with Lane and Leslie Advertising as a commercial artist. They resided there for about seven years before moving back to Wichita to continue working with Lane and Leslie and be closer to family. Later in life he retired from Star Lumber where he also continued to do commercial art.
After retiring he wanted to stay busy so he did lots of handyman jobs for friends and family which he was very good at and he always enjoyed lending a helping hand. He enjoyed being a part of his church volleyball team which he had been a part of for many years. He also belonged to a senior tennis team. Ron loved tennis and played till he was 80 years old. He was very happy to be able to play for that long! He was also known for being a good artist and an avid reader. In his later years you would find Ron either working on a woodworking project, enjoying a board game in which he hardly ever lost, taking a walk in nature, watching a WSU game or tennis, or painting several paintings a week! Some of his favorite things to paint were barn scenes, scenery settings or people.
Ron is survived by his wife Sue of 59 years. His daughter Marianne Horsch (Travis), three grandchildren Marissa, Carson and Karlie Horsch. Ron’s sister, Nancy Davis (Phil).
There will be a private celebration of life for immediate family. A memorial gift can be made to the Northridge Friends Church Youth Group, 2655 N. Bullinger, Wichita, Ks 67204
