Ronald Wray Cushman passed away on September 30, 2025, at Glen Carr Memory Care Center in Derby, Kansas. He was born on December 25, 1939, in Wellington, Kansas, to Samuel Arthur and Ruth Kathaleen Cushman.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; his parents, Sam and Kathy Cushman; sister, Beverly McGehee; brother, Danny Cushman; as well as many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and three nephews.
He is survived by his four children: Rhonda (Jeff) Cott of Derby; Mike Cushman of Mulvane; Connie (Chris) Warren of Mulvane; and Jeff (Leah) Cushman of Little Elm, Texas. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Ron was a fifth-generation resident of Belle Plaine, Kan. where his family first settled in the late 1800s. He began his career with Boeing Aircraft Company before moving into the insurance field with Prudential in 1970. After raising their family, his work took him and his wife, Carol, to Winfield and later to Pittsburg, Kansas. They eventually returned to Derby, where Ron retired in 1995.
Ron was an avid golfer and a lifelong Wichita State Shocker fan. He especially loved cheering on his grandkids at their many sporting events, always proud to be in the stands.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 1:00–4:00 p.m. at the Derby Public Library Community Room, 1600 East Walnut Grove, Derby, Kansas.
Family and friends are invited to come and go, with a time for shared memories beginning at 2:00 p.m.
