Robert F. Word

Robert F. Word, 88, passed on August 18, 2023. He was born May 11, 1935 in Sparta, Illinois, the son of Charles Carlos and Agnes (Beveridge) Word.

Robert was a man of faith and prayer, and an accomplished carpenter who followed a carpenter, Jesus, the Son of the living God.

Robert taught Sunday School in various church, preached, and wrote many Christian books. His favorite was the Joy Class at the Mulvane Christian Church.

He built and remodeled homes. He was a Master Craftsman and Cabinet-maker. Robert was a man of integrity and of deep faith. As a lay minister, he filled many pulpits as a guest preacher. He served as an Interim Pastor at Beaumont Christian Church and South Haven Christian Church.

Robert did not have many hobbies, but he did love his gardening and watching baseball. He was not a mechanic, but there was never a time he couldn't fix something.

Robert is survived by Patricia, his wife of 65 years; sons Ken (Carolyn), David (Traci), Rob (Sue); daughter Melissa (Daryle) Young; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Shannon O’Dell Word.

Visitation 5-7pm Wednesday, August 23, with funeral services 10am Thursday, all at Smith Mortuary in Derby. Interment will follow at the Waco Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The WELL in Derby.
