Robert J. Oringderff

Robert Junior “Bob” Oringderff, went to be with our Lord on Oct 8, 2014. He was born in Enid OK on Dec 23, 1923, the son of Robert & Laticia (Lettie) Oringderff. The family moved to Dacoma, OK when he was 9 years old, where he graduated from high school in 1941. He was working in Washington state, in the ship yards, when he was called into the US Army in 1942. In the autumn of 1943 he was shipped to N. Africa with the 88th Division. While serving in the Poe Valley of Italy in the autumn of 1944 he was captured by German forces & transported to Stalag 7-A POW camp, near Mooseburg, Germany. He remained in captivity until liberated by the Allied forces on April 29, 1945. Bob & Mary Nell Walters were married in Dec. 1947 in Wichita, KS. They moved to Sublette, KS in 1948 where they raised two children, a daughter Janice and son Richard. Bob was a master carpenter where he built and remodeled houses and made furniture and cabinets in Sublette, most of that time as a second job. He worked for Cities Service Gas Co, first in Sublette and later at Straight OK. After retiring in 1982 he & Mary Nell spent many winters, as “snow birds”, in Mesa, AZ. In 1958 he began building a water ski boat from scratch. The family used the boat for 16 years after its completion in 1959. He was baptized into Jesus Christ in 1954 at Sublette Christian Church where he served and worshipped for many years. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Graceva Nusser, and a brother, William (Bill) Oringderff. He is survived by his wife, Mary Nell, daughter, Jan (Darrell) Vincent, son, Dick (Mary Jo) Oringderff; grandchildren, Jeffery (Denyne) Vincent, of Arizona, Bradley (Ami) Vincent of Wyoming; Anne (Jeromy) Powers of Connecticut; Ross Oringderff of California; great-grandchildren, Evan, Brooklyn, Jackson, Ella and Aubrey A memorial service will be held on Monday, Oct 13 at 1:30pm in the Presbyterian Manor Chapel, 4700 W 13th St N., Wichita. Cards appreciated. A memorial has been established with Harry Hynes Hospice, who lovingly cared for him at the end of his life.
