Rita Wharry

Rita Faye Wharry (Peery) of Georgetown, TX went home to be with the Lord on June 3, 2022, at the age of 93. She passed peacefully attended by her family. Born in Blackwell, OK; Rita was raised by her mother Zola Peery (Bilyeu), in Wichita, KS along with two older brothers Joe, C.E. “Bud” and her twin brother Donald Ray, who all preceded her in death.

Wichita is also where she met and married the love of her life, Darold Wharry (deceased). They were happily married for 68 years. Together they had three children, Lee (wife, Jill) of Derby, KS, Richard (deceased), and Carrie (husband, Michael) Marshall of Georgetown, TX. Rita was also blessed with three grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.

In addition to being a loving wife and mother Rita had a very eclectic life. She was good at whatever she set her mind to. After her children were born, she went back to school. Subsequently she opened her own business in Mulvane KS, Rita’s Hair Salon then moved on to Derby, KS opening Exquisite Coiffures, a successful hair and skin care salon which she owned and operated for many years. After she sold her business, Rita went on to serve the Mulvane community as a member of the City Council as well as President of the Mulvane Women’s Club. After her years in community service, she went back to school again to become a realtor. She was very creative and in addition to being a hair and makeup artist, some of her creative outlets included acting in productions with the Wichita Children’s Theatre. Rita was an artist in multiple mediums. In her retirement years she and Darold enjoyed international travel and U.S. adventures in their RV.

Rita was dearly loved by her family and friends. Her sparkling blue eyes and infectious girly giggle will be missed by many. Graveside services will be held on June 17, 2022, at 11:00 am at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Wichita, KS.
