Douglass - Rick Morriss, 67, passed away July 22, 2025. He was born January 1, 1958, to Orville and Mary Morriss in El Dorado, Kansas.
Rick began working at Boeing in 1980 in the Plastic Plaster Shop and worked his way up to retire as the Director of Tooling from Spirit. His “guys” were a loyal, tight knit crew, who continued to stay in touch up until the day Rick died.
After retirement, Rick could be found taking care of the farm that he was so proud to have. He was always on a tractor, mower, or zipping around the dirt roads on his side by side with his dog Mikki riding shotgun. He took immense pride in making his property look like a park.
He enjoyed live concerts (especially the bands from the 70s and 80s), Nascar, napping during Nascar (do not touch that remote!), traveling, and never-ending re-runs of The Andy Griffith Show.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his mother Mary, his father Orville (Bob), and his nephew Taylor.
Rick is survived by his wife, Melanie; children Amanda (Chris) Morckel and Lauryn (Chad) Young; stepchildren Morgan and Cory Goings; and grandchildren Austin, Sawyer, Jackson, Scott, Audrey, Edith, and Evelyn. He was also survived by his brother Randy, his sisters Diana and Debbie, and several nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 N Rock Road, Derby, Kansas 67037.
Rick never would have wanted anyone to spend money on him so in lieu of flowers, Rick’s family ask you to hug your loved ones just a little bit tighter, and a little bit longer.
