Ricky Gene Cowdin

May 25, 1943 — April 8, 2025

I hope heaven has motorcycles, coffee, red beers, and twinkies because those are his favorite things besides his grandkids; Adriann and Brandon Songster, Kael and Stephanie Titus, JD and Keera Titus, his two great grands Daxton and Cambry, his daughter Sarah and son in law William Davis, and his wife of 60 years Doylene. Rick was made to be a grandpa. He lived for those grands and great grands. He got in so much trouble with those kids. He just let them be kids, get dirty, drive things, eat and drink they shouldn't, and they have amazing memories because of it. Rick was a mailman in Derby, Kansas for a couple of years, 32 to be exact. He carried mail in Derby for years until he was hit by lightning and forced to work inside as a clerk. Right out of high school, he joined the Army (thank you, Dad) in 1960, which landed him in the middle of the Vietnam War. He was sent to the Philippines, where he served 36 months. He told us lots of stories about his stay there. It wasn't all work, but he wasn't a fan of his time in the Philippines.

He rode motorcycles with some cool crusty ol' guys from around the Mulvane and Derby area, and man, did they have stories. They lost a few to accidents along the way he swore they were the lucky ones. He would say, "they went out doing what the loved, lucky "expletive." They rode to Utah, Mississippi, Sturgis, Colorado, all over Kansas and surrounding states. They drank a few beers and told a lot of lies and lived a life, most only dream of.

He was a simple man, not politically correct, not even a little, and he didn't care about being so. He was ornery and hilarious. He was sharp witted, and tongued. He could build anything. We called it Rickin it. "Oh yea, he Ricked it. It's good as new."

His music collection is something to behold. He loved the California Raisins, Tina Turner, Dolly, Johnny Paycheck, Michael Jackson and the Eagles and most things in between.

Mostly, he loved us, with everything he had, every day right up until his last breath. What an amazing fight he fought. A true cancer warrior. No matter the title, son, husband, Dad, pawpa, pepop, friend, veteran, or even patient, he did his absolute best to be the very best one he could be.
