Richard L. Waggoner, 78, of Belle Plaine, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 28, 2026 with family by his side. Born in Wichita, Kansas, to Delvia and Herma Waggoner, Richard was a man defined by his lifelong curiosity, technical brilliance, and unwavering dedication to his family.
A 1965 graduate of Belle Plaine High School, Richard went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force, with assignments taking him from Texas and Alaska to South Vietnam. Following his military service, Richard dedicated himself to education, eventually earning a degree in Electronic Engineering Technology and a Master's in Computing Resource and Database Management.
In 1971, he married the love of his life, Roberta. Together, they built a life rooted in partnership and resilience. Though Roberta preceded him in death in January, their bond remained the cornerstone of his life; they would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this April.
Richard's professional career was a testament to his adaptability. He held key roles as a Field Service Engineer for Texas Instruments and an Equipment Service Manager for Kreonite Inc. Ever the provider, Richard stepped into various roles during industry shifts-working as a consultant, professional wedding photographer, carpenter's helper, and surveyor's rodman.
He spent 29 years at Boeing/Spirit Aerosystems, retiring in 2014. His contributions to aerospace were significant, ranging from process control data analysis to the design and implementation of autonomous manufacturing systems and advanced Non-Destructive Inspection equipment for engine nacelles.
He is survived by his children, Deborah and Todd. Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Roberta; their youngest son, Anthony; his parents; and his step-brother, Stanley Delano.
Funeral service is 2:00 PM April 2nd, 2026 at the First Baptist Church of Belle Plaine, 612 N Linden St, Belle Plaine, KS 67013.
