Richard Dean Smith

May 3, 1944 — December 12, 2020

On Saturday, December 12th , 2020, Richard (Rick) Smith, loving husband and father of two

children, passed away peacefully at age 76.

Produce Manager for Safeway, Food Barn, and Albertsons grocery stores. On July 21st, 1963,

he married Anita J. Simpson and they raised two children, Rick Jr and Deanna.

Rick loved coaching and officiating youth sports including Soccer, Baseball, and wrestling. He

was well known for his giving and caring nature often times helping to support teams with fees,

uniforms, equipment, or with his knowledge of the game.

Rick was an avid MLB Dodgers fan since he was a child and bled Dodger Blue. He faithfully

continued watching games every season regardless of the outcomes. He had been waiting

since 1988 for his beloved Dodgers to win their next World Series and he got his wish when the

Dodgers won the 2020 World Series beating the Tampa Bay Rays.

It was almost ironic that Rick passed away on a Saturday as most of his Saturdays started early

at the soccer fields with games, officiating, and preparing the field for play that day.

Rick is preceded in death by his father, Joseph, his mother, BurlLene, brothers Tommy and

Jerry, half- sisters Charlene and Betty Jo , half-brother James and Great Grandson, Dominic.

He is survived by his wife Anita, his two children Rick Jr and Deanna, Sister Phillis, Grandsons

Aaron, Alberto, Alex, and Granddaughter Danica, 3 Great Grandchildren, Madison, Hunter, and

Kennedy, and several nieces and nephews.
