Richard Edwin Markham, 97, WWII Army Veteran, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2015. He was born January 21, 1918 to Millard Edmond and Rebecca Ellen (Gravner) Markham in Lincoln County, KS. Richard was a man of God and a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Haysville for 25 years. He worked as a farmer and retired from Boeing after 29 years of service as a flight mechanic. Richard loved gardening and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his earlier years. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion post 509. Richard was a wonderful husband, father, and friend and a very loving grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents; all 6 of his siblings; and granddaughter, Amy Sue Hunter. Richard is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Jean Markham; daughters, Cathy (James “Skip”) Draper and Linda (Bob) Choura; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren. Funeral: 11 am, Tuesday, December 15, 2015 with visitation 1 hour prior at the First Baptist Church, 125 S. Delos Ave., Haysville, KS 67060. Interment to follow at El Paso Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Frist Baptist Church of Haysville.
