Rebecca Bloomgren Ott

January 14, 1959 — July 13, 2021

Rebecca Marie Ott went to be with the Lord on July 13, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born on January 14, 1959 in Wichita, KS to Donald and Rosemarie Bloomgren, the second of four sisters. She received her BS in Finance from WSU and worked at First National Bank, now Intrust. She married Kent Ott on November 20, 1981 in Mulvane, KS. They built their dream home together in Mulvane and lived there for 35 years. They have two daughters, Lindsey and Rachael Ott. When her second daughter was born, Rebecca decided to switch from full time employment at the bank and be at home with her children. She was always available for her kids but she still had a desire to pursue her vocation. She completed a second BS in Education from WSU and an MBA from Fort Hays and taught accounting at local community colleges. While pursuing teaching, she also managed the accounting and marketing for the family farm. She turned from a city girl to a true farm girl.

Rebecca had a knack for engaging with people. She was the glue to her family and friends, the do-er who made things happen, the jokester who loved to tease, and the caregiver who knew how to connect with and nurture each person around her. Rebecca was generous beyond belief and was a planner extraordinaire, frequently organizing the most excellent gatherings for her people. She impacted many kids in the community and played a big role in programs like Mother’s Day Out, Kingdom Seekers and church outreach for kids needing a place for remote learning. Rebecca loved the Lord and that was what shaped her as a person. Her relationship with Jesus was what guided her to share the gospel and to love and serve others. The Lord placed on her heart the ability to genuinely love others which she did up to her last days in the hospital. When others were calling and texting to check on her, she was checking on them. She prayed for and served others consistently, and her focus was always on matters of eternal consequence.

We will smile whenever we think about the things she loved: Nifty Nut House, chocolate coffee birthday cake, Pizza Johns, Keanu Reaves, ‘Boss Baby’, Botanica, McAlister’s Unsweet Iced Tea, Michael Bublé, Chik-fil-A, Kansas heritage, South Carolina, Colorado Springs, nature walks, gardening, Peppermint Patties, estate sales, Red Rock restaurant, woodworking, HGTV, her frogs and her birds, K-State wildcats, crazy nail polish, disc golf, taco salad and chocolate chip cookies, her tomato babies, and so much more.

Rebecca was survived by her spouse, Kent Ott, children Lindsey Ott and Rachael Ott; her siblings, Sabrina Nibbelink, Kirsten Decker, and Heather Myrick and their spouses; her aunt and uncle, Gary and Marylou Bloomgren; her sisters-in-law, Debbie Fleming, Diane Paul, Carla Calvert and their spouses, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Donald and Rosemarie Bloomgren, parents-in-law, Charles and Patricia Ott, and her niece, Madison.

Her memorial service will be on Saturday, July 17 at 10 am at the Mulvane Christian Church. Visitation will be on Friday, July 16 at 1-8 pm at Smith Family Mortuary in Derby with family present from 6-8 pm. She will be interred at Mulvane Cemetery. A memorial donation is suggested in lieu of flowers for the Mulvane Christian Church and Agape Development in Houston, TX.
