Rebecca “Sue” Bills, beloved matriarch of her family, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 15, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on April 8, 1949, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Shelby and Ruby Ingram, Rebecca—known lovingly to many as Sue—built a life centered on warmth, humor, and family.
To those fortunate enough to know her, Sue will always be remembered for her signature phrase, “How nice.” Those simple words perfectly reflected her kind and genuine spirit.
Sue cherished time spent visiting and connecting with others. She loved mingling with friends, family, and the staff at her care home, where her sense of humor brightened the days of those around her. She was known for sharing “the joke” with nearly everyone she met and even gave her oxygen bottle the humorous nickname “propane.” She deeply missed her beloved cat whenever she was away from home.
Although the final years of her life brought challenges, including COPD and dementia, Sue’s spirit and role as the heart of her family never faded. She faced her health journey, including receiving hospice comfort care, with grace, resilience, and dignity.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Bills; her parents, Shelby and Ruby Ingram; and her brothers, Richard, Thomas, and Mark Ingram.
She is survived by her brother, Jerry Ingram; her children, Ronda (Greg) Tackett, Casey (Cassidy) Sipult, and Robert (Monica) Bills; her grandchildren, Brooke (Greg) Murray, Nathan, Christopher Tackett, Caden, Rylee Bills; and her great-grandchildren, Mathew Rice, Grant, Marissa, Grayson and Miriam Murray.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Smith Family Mortuary. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Belle Plaine Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market St., Wichita, KS 67202.
The family asks that you honor Sue’s memory by taking a moment to appreciate life’s simple joys and quietly whisper “How Nice “
