Randolph William Degenhardt was born May 15, 1950 in Salina, Kansas to William “Bill” and Regina (Meier) Degenhardt. Raised in Wichita, Randy graduated from Wichita South High School in 1968 and went on to graduate from Sacred Heart College with a degree in English. He spent 35 years with Westar Energy, retiring in 2012. He later obtained a master's degree in adult education from Kansas State University and taught English at Friends University for 14 years. In retirement, he continued to share his love of learning by substitute teaching in Goddard and Andale.
A devoted father and grandfather, he cherished time spent with his family. He loved traveling, reading, good food, and good company. An avid traveler and traditionalist, he created lasting memories through annual family vacations and meaningful holiday and birthday traditions. Randy will be forever remembered for his humor, curiosity, faith and unwavering dedication to his family.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Regina, his brother-in-law Frank Gettings, and his niece Annette Gettings. He leaves behind two daughters; Kiersten Camp (Joe) and Kelley Allender; ten grandchildren, Bryce Camp (Ilanna), Aidan Camp, Makayli Allender, Kennedy Scholl (Tyler), Karsyn Allender, Creighton Camp, Braxton Camp, Broden Allender, Piper Camp, and Ella Allender; his two sisters, Lila Gettings and Caroline Clark (Larry); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to a Rosary at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church on Thursday, July 10th, at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross Church in Pfeifer, Kansas, on Friday, July 11th, at 11:00 a.m.
