Phyllis Wright Birch

Phyllis W. Birch, 85, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017. Visitation 1-8 p.m. Monday (family present 5-7), at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby. Funeral service 10 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 1062 E. Chet Smith, Derby. Phyllis was active on the local level of Camp Fire Girls and a longtime leader of two groups. She served one year as president of the Wichita Council of Camp Fire Girls. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi. She spent many hours knitting hats and sweaters for Salvation Army and TOPS, and making and dressing porcelain dolls. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, John "Jack" Birch; parents Malcolm and Jill Wright; brothers-in-law Mike Todd and Toby Birch; sister-in-law Jill Birch Hebbron. Survived by daughters Kimberly Birch (Mark E. Huegel), Charles City, IA; Melodie (Charles) Heverin, Rose Hill; sisters Juanita (Roy) Hood, Hoschton, GA; Jean Todd, Clarksville, TN; Lee (James) Reyes, Palatka, FL; Pam (Dyer) Michell, Ocala, FL; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials have been established with Victory in the Valley, 3755 E. Douglas, Wichita, KS 67218, and Salvation Army, 350 North Market, Wichita, KS 67202.
