Paul Heidt, 88, of Rose Hill, KS, passed away on May 3rd, 2024. He was born to George and Francis Heidt on March 29th, 1936 in Schefield, North Dakota.
In May of 1954, Paul enlisted in the Air Force and upon completing his basic training, he spent August of 1954 to April of 1955 learning jet engine repair at Chanute AFB. After completion of his training, he was assigned to McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita. While he was stationed there, he met the love of his life, Betty Wingate and they married in October of 1956. After being discharged from the Air Force in 1957, the family moved to Dickinson, ND for two years before returning back to Wichita. Paul worked various jobs before working for the Coleman Company for 13 years. He then went to work at NCR, until his retirement in 1990.
After moving to Rose Hill in 1978, he became active in volunteer work. He was a member of the Rose Hill Lions Club, Rose Hill Senior Center, Rose Hill United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge in Douglas. As a member of the Lions Club, he volunteered countless hours taking tickets for Rose Hill school districts sporting events. After the Lions Club disbanded, he continued taking tickets with the proceeds going to the Rose Hill United Methodist Church. All total, he volunteered his time taking tickets for over 37 years. Paul was always a fixture at the Lions Club Fireworks stand, Rose Hill Fall Festival and Mid Town Auto, for his morning coffee. He enjoyed watching Wichita Wingnuts Baseball, but mostly he enjoyed talking to people.
Preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Betty, three sisters and one brother. He is survived by daughters, Linda (David) Lacio, Lucy Heidt; son, Quentin Heidt; siblings; Peter (Irene) Heidt-Dickenson, Frances Dukart; grandchildren, Nic Lacio and Lindsay Parker, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Road, Derby, KS 67037 and funeral service is 10:00 am Thursday, May 9, 2024, at the Rose Hill United Methodist Church, 19551 SW Butler Rd Rose Hill, Kansas 67133.
