Paul Doyon, Sr., 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born January 14, 1937 to Ernest and Charlotte Doyon in Providence, Rhode Island.
As a young man, Paul proudly served his country for two years in the United States Coast Guard. He was stationed out of Boston on the icebreaker USCGC Eastwind W279. Their mission was to escort resupply ships through the ice to northern bases in the arctic region.
Later Paul founded The Grinderman sandwich shop, which he operated in Wichita for 56 years. Paul was married to the love of his life, Marilyn, for 68 years. He was a romantic with a sense of humor; he loved to tell stories and also loved music.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; sons, Paul (Sheri) Doyon, Jr. of Maumelle, AR, Michael (Dee) Doyon of Wichita, Bryan (Emily) Doyon of El Dorado; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.Memorial service is at noon on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 N Rock Road, Derby, KS 67037.Memorial donations may be sent to Great Plains Diabetes, 834 N Socora, Wichita, KS 67212.
